The International Council of Association for Science Education (ICASE) held its African regional conference on "Meeting the Challenges to Sustainable Development in Africa through Science and Technology Education" on 24 – 29 May 2009 in Abuja, Nigeria. SARUA Handbook 2009
The Handbook is designed as a handy, and easy to use, quick reference guide to 66 public universities in 14 different SADC countries in Southern Africa. It is divided into 14 sections, corresponding to the 14 different countries, each section starting with a brief history that sets the higher education efforts in that country in their historical and cultural context, followed by the individual stories of each public university, including key student data and relevant contact information. Published Book: Future of Planet Earth
On 3-5 June 2008, nineteen eminent scholars representing five continents met in Paris at the UNESCO Headquarters to consider the critical factors that might have the most impact on the long-term future of Planet Earth. The seminar was organized by Foundation For the Future (FFF) of USA, UNESCO and the UN-proclaimed International Year of Planet Earth (IYPE). Africa was represented by Prof Alfred Oteng-Yeboa (Ghana) and Prof Sospeter Muhongo (Tanzania). Download the 358-page book (28.1 MB) 
Conference Report on "Science with Africa"
The Conference Report on "Science with Africa" is now published. This conference was organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the African Union Commission (AUC) and their partners. About 800 participants including legislators, politicians, policymakers, scientists, the private sector and civil society organisations attended this highly successful conference. Participants came from 43 African countries, 23 countries outside Africa (Asia, Europe and North America). Prof Sospeter Muhongo (ICSU ROA) was the Rapporteur-General of the Conference and the main author of the Conference Report. Download the report 
Implementation of ICSU ROA Science Plans and the ICSU Strategic Plan 2006-11
ICSU Regional Office for Africa (ICSU ROA) has published and widely disseminated its four science plans and is now in the implementation phase. There are four science plans and concomitant projects that are being developed, some are at a completion stage. ICSU ROA continues building up its database of experts (including experts from the ICSU family and the African Diaspora) for the implementation of the projects being developed from the science plans. Interested individuals, organisations, institutions and companies should register their interests of involvement as follows:

African Union Scientific Awards
The African Union Commission is committed to promote elements of human intellectual development, encourage technological and scientific leadership and inspire young generations in Africa. Science and Technology is one of the key focal areas on Africa’s development agenda. The African Union Constitutive Act recognizes the need to advance the development of Africa by promoting research in all fields, in particular in science and technology. ICGEB Biosafety Fellowships
The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and biotechnology (ICGEB) is an international, intergovernmental organization conceived as a centre of excellence for research and training in genetic engineering and biotechnology with special regard to the needs of the developing world and has developed a comprehensive programme on biosafety, centered on capacity building and dissemination of scientific information.
